Professional Communications Systems

KCEN Waco, Texas

Situation

Like all Broadcasters, KCEN learned they’d have to be digital by 2006. They saw the opportunity to be ahead of the curve, so they called on the experts at PCS.

Solution

With the KCEN project team, PCS developed a five-year plan, to transform the station from analog to digital. They chose a multiphase approach to deliver the best possible solution for their budget and the needs of their market.

Phase One was a server-based spot playback, under automation control. Then we consulted with an independent RF company to provide tower and transmitter specs.

Over time, the design and installation teams phased in the router and switcher replacements, and all necessary systems and equipment.

Results

First came a comprehensive Scope of Work document with explicit detail, timelines, and a corresponding equipment and service list. The installation was completed according to the established timetable — and under budget.

KCEN’s broadcast operations, and substantial community service commitments, were not interrupted. KCEN management, employees and audiences are now enjoying the latest technological innovations available in the industry, thanks to their partnership with PCS.
