Florida Coastal School of Law Jacksonville, Florida

Situation

With more than 1,300 students and 100-plus faculty and staff, Florida Coastal School of Law (FCSL) is a prominent unit of the InfiLaw consortium of independent law schools.

Moving into a larger facility, FCSL wanted cutting-edge audiovisual technology that would provide an innovative and collaborative learning environment, and be a prototype for other InfiLaw schools.

The multi-story building required extensive remodeling, and the teaching presentation system needed to be up and running before the next term began.

Solution

FCSL selected an international design firm, a national construction company and PCS to pull the project together on an accelerated schedule, requiring very tight coordination.

The school also insisted on using top-of-the-line equipment to ensure that the facility would be second to none in video and audio capabilities.

Results

The centerpiece of the complex is a Trial Court Room with six 40" LCD overhead screens and six 20" flat screen monitors for the jury, multiple speakers and three pan/tilt/zoom cameras. Wireless control panels allow the judge and lawyers to input content enabled by laptop interfaces and digital annotators.

The facility also includes an Appellate Court Room with similar technology; nine classrooms, two with videoconferencing capability from Polycom; and seven conference/seminar rooms. 50" and 65" plasma monitors suspended on Chief mounts are in the library, atrium and reception areas on the first floor.

In all, PCS has provided its client with one of the most technologically sophisticated video and audio presentation networks among the nation’s law schools.
